Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
